The story

She used to carry a torch. Now she carries a tab.

Libby washed up on Ellis Island in 1886 wearing a crown, a robe, and absolutely no plan for a Tuesday night. Since then she's been the unofficial mayor of dive bars across the city, from the Battery to Brooklyn, Long Island City to The Bronx.

The famous torch? Gone. It disappeared at a Halloween party at Cake Shop in 2017. By now it's probably been sold on Facebook Marketplace with "no lowballs, I know what I've got."

Her tablet, the one usually inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI, started out as a list of people who owed her money. Somewhere along the way it became a list of people she owed money to. These days it's mostly a running tab and somebody named Vinny with three fire emojis after his number.

America gave Libby freedom and absolutely zero supervision. Every few days another candid photo of her mysteriously appears taped to the harbor gate. Nobody knows who's taking them. At this point she's one Jell-O shot and a High Life away from launching an OnlyFans.

Libby starts with writing. The characters, jokes, stories, strange situations and world of Libby are created and developed by Alf Lenni Erlandsen. AI-assisted tools are currently used to help bring that world to life visually — allowing an independent project to move quickly, experiment freely and follow ideas wherever they happen to go.

The tools will change. The collaborators will grow. The character will evolve. Libby is the constant.

Depends what you're bringing. Pizza, dive bars, and mild chaos all rank highly. Reach out on Instagram and pitch her — she reads everything eventually. (Genesee, if you're reading this, please reach out.)

As real as a very large, very green statue with commitment issues can be. We'll leave it at that.

Whenever there's something worth saying. Could be next week, could be next month. Libby runs on island time, not a schedule.

Ask first. Libby's and he is, unfortunately, very particular.
